does the 4k version shoot at 12 bit raw like the 2.5k? Also does it shoot at 4:4:4 like the 2.5k? please let me know I have been waiting since april for my preorder and still nothing. I need a 4k for my next film so it worked out. just need to make sure about the specs.

BMD says on the cameras' tech specs pages on their website that the BMCC records 13 stops, and the BMPC-4K records 12 stops.

Both cameras are capable of recording 12-bit RAW. The BMCC can record RAW as uncompressed, and the BMPC-4K can record RAW as compressed. Both can also record compressed ProRes HQ @ 10-bit 4:2:2, and the BMCC can also record DNxHD @ 10-bit 4:2:2.

Note: At NAB last week BMD said it's possible that the BMPC-4K will initially ship with only ProRes HQ 4K & 1080p enabled, and that its compressed 4K RAW feature will be added soon after via a free firmware update.

Thanks for the answer so much just have couple more questions for u . The compressed raw on the 4k can it shoot at 4:4:4? does the uncompressed in the 2.5k shoot like that? or is it raw or not at 4:2:2? I understand the prores is at 4:2:2 just curious. Also on a 512 gb ssd how many minutes can fit for compressed raw at 4k? Sorry for all the question just really lost here on some of this.

Why is the audio all garbled on the new Landmine Media videos from NAB 2013?

I may be mistaken about this, but uncompressed RAW isn't described in terms of "4:4:4", etc.; it's RAW and uncompressed. It's all of the data from the sensor, with little or no processing done to it before being written out to the SSD. That might not be a 100% accurate description on my part, but for 99.99% of all productions I doubt it makes a difference.

BMD hasn't yet announced exact data rates for their compressed RAW CinemaDNG. Various numbers have been reported from the NAB expo, but BMD hasn't published a definitive spec yet. I suspect they will relatively soon, certainly before the new camera models ship.

On that last point, don't make the mistake of planning an upcoming shoot around a camera that isn't shipping yet. Although BMD said the new cams are expected to ship by the end of July 2013, their record for timely shipping isn't good. It's unknowable when their cameras will be available.

In general, the sooner you place a pre-order the sooner you'll probably receive a camera. However, even that seemingly simple concept is unpredictable with BMD cameras: For example, this week Adorama.com has BMCC cameras sitting on their shelves, waiting for for customers to buy them, while at the same time most people who pre-ordered BMCCs (especially in the EU) are still waiting for them. If you place a pre-order, if at all possible only do so with a dealer who doesn't require a deposit, or if they do, only if it's a fully refundable deposit. Good luck!
