BM has made such a big deal about licensing issues with CinemaDNG.

So how is Kinefinity getting away with still providing it?

Do they compress or is it full uncompressed? If it is uncompressed it is not a problem.

Kinefinity is in China so they are virtually immune to litigation. They do have compressed CNDG. This is why they are unlikely to have service and support infrastructure in the US in the near future.

Boycott anything to do with RED. With enough people they will get the message. And you can start by not coming to this website that is run by the president of RED.

I honestly don't get this claim to compressed raw that Red thinks they have just because they have a patent that says compressed raw on it. It should be just their specific method, ie red code. Red code isn't even raw really, it is wavelet compression closer to braw than cdng really.

Maybe the licensing issue has more to do with something like BM not wanting to pay Adobe than being a real "licensing issue."
I'd prefer to be able to shoot either CinemaDNG or BRAW especially with a global shutter camera.

cDNG is an open format - it was open sourced by Adobe themselves - there is no need for BM to 'pay adobe' as you put it (and even if they did that would be the very definition of 'a real licensing issue')

the actual file format is not really the issue here, but something to do with writing 'RAW' to any format in a compressed manner off the actual the camera itself
whether anyone likes it or not or thinks its sensible/fair/comprehensible or not, apparently Red's patent DOES cover compressed 'RAW' in general regardless of the file container details - blame the issuing authorities for granting overly broad patents if you will, but this is not uncommon
I'm guessing what 'RAW' precisely means in this case is somehow defined in that patent and technically BRAW side steps that (in relation to the patent in question at least, its not technically RAW) where as the previous use of cDNG does not
