Thanks Frank. Covers much of what I was looking for in the other post.

I'm still a little concerned about what to do on those occasions where sharpness is the desired attribute. But like you I've spent a fair amount of effort and money diffusing.

Also like most of you I know CDNG really well.

    It's a new world.

    I always like an adventure.

    That is good to know!

I have to admit that I do wonder "why now." It seems like this might have come up at any time over the last 6 years, going back to when Red when after Sony. I wonder why it is coming up now? And why is the patent not applied to Arriraw?

Your delivery codec will throw any sharpness or image information differences between CDNG and BRAW out of the window anyway.

This is even more true with BRAW, since it is even faster.
OK, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the workflow.

Obviously I had to use Resolve to do the Braw testing - i'm just not comfortable with the color management workflow.

What would be the settings at ingest and under the Camera setings in the Color pane, that would allow us to just drop the footage into the timeline?
I've got several shoots next week that I'd love to be shooting in smaller file sizes like 5:1 or 8:1

    I'd love your input.
I'll even buy you a cigar

Thanks for the tests and sharing your insights on this new codec Frank. I know how methodical you do your tests and articles even way back to dvx days and the invasion of the spinning and vibrating adapters!

    Yeah good ole days Ted.

Just today I thought: I wonder what's going on over at DVXUser.

I wonder where that leaves the Ursa Mini 4.6k then, as it doesn't seem like it's being discontinued or updated...

When RED sued Sony (presuming that RED is who were talking about now) it was because Sony did a compressed RAW.

    Arriraw isn’t compressed.

Obviously cant compete with superman but heres a quick test. Yes you can tell the difference when super zoomed in. Otherwise, with my untrained eye I cant tell the difference viewing it unzoomed. I provided the download links to the files as well. Prolly have to wait for youtube to encode in 4K DCI
