    4 common batteries in a simple sled with no electronics at all will work if you go into the 12v DC port. It's really only if you want to meter or do something else fancy that would require any electronics.

    Though if your selling it as a product you'd want some sort of short protection board, temp shut off etc in there. Sony np-f use this.

    For sure, a retail product should have some pleasantry/safety circuitry. If you just want to 3D print a shell and shove a battery sled in it, it will work.
