I'm having a hard time choosing between the 2 Bi Color panels. I'm leaning toward the Alladin BiFlex 4 b/c it can be rolled, however I'm wondering if the slightly larger surface area of the LiteMat will be missed. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the difference in softness coming from a 3.5' x 2' source vs a 4' x 1' source? Is it negligible?

Depends how you use the light really. If there is no additional diffusion, and you use the unit horizontally. You wont notice any difference in the shadow gradation from left to right but you will notice a slightly sharper shadow from up to down. Nonetheless you through a 6x6 of full grid in front of either unit and it will look the same. Personally I would go for the litemat especially if you are getting a dimmer that can do overdrive, and low mode. Not sure Alladin can do that, plus the industry knows litemat, but doesn't know alladin.

I second litegear litemat, I rent them like crazy. I have a 1x1 flexlight in my own kit, and it's a useful tool to have in small spaces and for a small travel kit, but if I had to choose it'd be the litemat all day every day.
