Too much detail, sharpness for my taste.

I love detail and sharpness. Have hated analog film ever since the 90ties for its grain and lack of detail. But I am probably a minority, hehe.

Yeah maybe its because I grew up with film and I am used to the look. But I feel distracted by all the details that do not add anything to the story, so they put me off the story. Its like watching a porn movie, and the porn actrice has a huge zit, that just doesnt do it for me.

I grew up with film too but I hated the fuzzy look when looked up closely. Switching finally from analog photography to digital was a relief.

strangely enough I switched from digital to analogue for photography. the video has its moments but cinematic moments to me come down to lighting, composition, environment and subject. There were a couple shots in that clip where all that came together. the rest was walking around test footage =) some shots looked too real life in detail, pretty strange to say hey haha.

Shot at 0.48 is probably the one scene for me where everything fell into place with the light, shadows, subject, composition and balance. but thats just me =) everyone has their own taste.

I don't think it's just being used to it. Think about paintings and how and why one perceives them as aesthetically pleasing. There's a reason people put (image degrading) filters on their stupid social media pictures; it is aesthetically more pleasing to the general brain than a true and correct depiction of reality, like it or not.

The past decades, especially the Japanese have developed digital cameras as well as lenses with the goal of perfect depiction, weeding out imperfections. Arri for example had a different approach, orienting on the aesthetic attributes of film from the get go, trying to make their digital cameras 'filmic'. For the past 10 years the by far most used digital camera for academy award nominated dramas is the Alexa - for a good, 'aesthetic', reason.

Well for me those edges on those leaves are soo offputting, they look so sharp, too digital and is so distracting. I am only looking at the sharpness of those leaves and I am fogetting the overal picture.
