I made a picture of my BPM 1/4 77mm. Click to open in hi res. As you can see there are many small particles, no large dots.

BTW: If someone has a Black Satin or Glimmerglass filter, could you make a picture of its texture? It would be interesting to compare it with the BPM.

I don't have it on me, but my Digital Diffusion FX2 has a grid pattern of opaque dots. They're more opaque than the random dots on Pro Mist.

    Or is it dust?
    via David Mullen, A.S.C.:

"Mist" filters are things like ProMist, Black ProMist, SupaFrost, Frost, Black Frost, GlimmerGlass, etc. They all do some softening but they are mainly designed to cause bright areas to halate into dark areas, though the "black" versions have an added pattern of black specks or dots to restore some contrast and black level."

"Filters with black specks in them like Black Frost or Black ProMist can also have issues if you stop down too much and have the patterns come into focus (looks like the lens has dust on it if you stop down too much) though you'd have to stop down quite a bit compared to the pattern in Classic Softs, which is larger and easier to see."

Perfect answer. Thank you. That is exactly how my filter looks. I just never noticed how the BMP filter really looked before now

The small dots on the left side is on the white background. Sorry for really bad photo guys!
And thank you all for answers!
