Cinema 5d article here saying that they've spotted a samyang (I figure they'd brand it rokinon since it's a cine lens) 50mm anamorphic.

This could be huge for the indie market depending on the price. Imagine that, being able to afford your own anamorphic lens set. The PL cine primes from Rokinon are currently USD 2k each so I guess it'd be a little more than that?

I do have a question though. If these were to come in an EF mount would it be possible to use circular focal reducers or would a special anamorphic one need to be created?

Not sure about the "little more" part - good anamorphics are hard to make - from waht I heard from my sources it's more like "50% cheaper than the competition"

So it pretty much depends on what you think "the competition" is.
If it is Hawks, we still taking about a car size price tag.

I'm guessing 'competition' is slr magic at around 3k- 6k depending on the lens. If they come in at half that then we have a winner.

Maybe the competition is Atlas being the cheapest decent (slr magic sucks) set at the moment, which is 8k per lens. My guess would be 4k per lens.

    OUCH!
Yeah... I didn't want to be the one to say it because I love the SLR Magic company. But their Anamorphics were disappointing to me too.
But as Frank just said, good anamorphics are VERY hard to make and are VERY expensive.
I certainly do credit SLR Magic for even trying.

Yeh I love them 2....and plan to get the APO 4 lens set but just calling a spade a spade. Hopefully Rokinon can do it....Lord knows we need some budget friendly anamorphic lenses.

The APO Hyperprimes are great, but as I understood it, the Anamorphots as they call them are not actually anamorphic lenses, but some type of pseudo adapted lens system that gives an anamorphic look.

Atlas on the other hand are true anamorphic lenses.

Does anyone know if these would be more like Xeens or more like Samyang/Rokinon lenses? I know they are all made by the same parent company, but the Xeens are far superior in both optical quality and build in my opinion.

From the image, I would say they are like Xeens.

And if they are clever, they name them Xeenomorphs
