  1. #1 Remembering the BMCC launch back in 2012...
    So,

I was thinking about the launch of the BMCC back in 2012 and I got a little nostalgic. That affordable cinema camera that no one saw coming had a 2,5K sensor for $3,000 while shooting RAW and ProRes !

The thread that started it all :
    http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread...!!-2-5k-for-3k

The footage that really sold me on the BMCC was shot by JB :

I absolutely loved the motion cadence which was very filmic and of course the DR and colors.

Fast forward 6 years later. NAB 2018 and the announcement of the Pocket 4K which for me is more of a BMCC V2.

Having a better camera, shooting compressed RAW at 4K60P, ProRes, a huge screen, interchangeable batteries, CFAST cards, XLR input, LUTs, full Davinci Resolve and much more for... $1,300 is ABSOLUTELY INSANE !!!

And thinking about it got me very EXCITED all over again ! I'm really grateful for what BM is doing and I truly hope that they can get the 'Mojo' right.

What a great time to be alive !

Yes very much agree. I shot a short early summer 2013 on Bmcc but settled for the original pocket, as I knew I'd only be doing ProRes. Shot 2 features on it, but always knew it was a work in progress starter camera to get used to a high quality workflow. As much as I like the look of the 4.6 sensor if the pocket 4K can maintain the Blackmagic look I can see it as my platform for years to come, I like the idea of multiple bodies that match.

Man... that original JB BMCC footage STILL looks better than what I'm seeing coming off of the GH5 today.

I wish they never stopped making that body...it was my favorite out of every one they ever made.

    Same here!
That's the main reason I'm looking forward to the new 4k v2. That rear mounted 5-inch touch screen. Honestly, at $1,300 I'd be just as happy with it if it were only a 3k camera.

Coming into that NAB there was a worldwide " Lost Orphan " group.

Over on Reduser many had waited years for a Scarlet " 3K for 3K ". It didn't eventuate , ended up way more expensive.

So we trudged back to Canon who were (after about 3 years) releasing their followup to the breakthrough 5D MK2 with the 5D MK3. I'm sure it takes nice photo's but for those wanting to shoot footage it was abysmal. Still an 8bit codec & an overbearing OPLF that had to be sharpened from mud in post.

So we trudged into NAB thinking about camcorders or a Nikon ( no offense ) or something. Depressed .

I got the first BMCC immediately. that's when I learn't my first lesson about Blackmagic. They listen to feedback. Within 6 or 7 months they released the called for MFT which I would've preferred.

That's how history played out for me vaguely in my beat up memory anyway.

I'll just say if the pocket 4k is the pocket successor I can't wait to see the BMCC successor.

I remember the 'Bavarian Rain' video as it was yesterday... I was thinking to myself: 'Look at the motion cadence, look at the motion cadence, it looks like film' !
