CSfilms - I wouldn't be put-off by the complexity of some of these workflow suggestions. You can always shoot in 'video', which is less flat than the log profile. And there are various 'one-click' methods which could still give good results, as suggested above.

However, if you really don't like working with images in post, BMD cameras might not be your natural choice.

Yikes, is the cross hatch pattern still a thing? Is the X/Y offset the only recommended way to fix?

If you are not that confident with grading, the new extended video mode is intended to give you a good base image that's not as aggressive as the standard broadcast 709/video mode with enough room to push things a little in post if you need it. For some projects it may be suitable "out of the box" assuming exposure/wb was set as desired during capture.

**Any post by me prior to Aug 2014 was before i started working for Blackmagic**

Please correct me if I am wrong (And I certainly lack a lot of postpro knowledge) and I never got the prevalent log anxienty BUT
With any BM Camera. Just shoot Prores in BMDFilm and try to monitor with sth like the standard BMDFilm to REC709 LUT from Davinci and shoot like you would shoot any camera.
In Davinci then set this LUT as an output LUT in the color management tab and boom, you never actually see the log but can use its advantages and learn the rest from there.
I encourage you to do so.
My point being, I am shit at color grading but that doesn't mean I don't want to use all the latitude available to me. Cause I try to be a good DP at some point at least.
