Any advantage/disadvantage to using ACES ? I just set my project settings/color to ACES. Then aces input to whatever log (bm log film, clog, slog etc). and aces output to rec709. I understand that in the ACES
workflow nothing is clipped/lost across the grade and seems to hold true for me.

    Bravo Juan,
I have long stated that there was an issue with Blackmagic color science.
Got practically beat up by John Brawley here for daring to state this.
End of the day, I think you are absolutely right.
There is indeed a problem with the BM film curve.
I have long noticed this, as have other colorists I know.
I too have noticed the saturation issues in the hightlights, skin tones that lack appropriate nuances, etc.
    Seems like a good workaround.

Have you found that you are able to deal with the overly present Cyan dominance in skies (as opposed to blue skies) through your new workflow ?

    Cheers,
    Clayton

If I wanted my films to look like the real world I'd buy a video camera.

    The sky isn't cyan?

    It's blue?

You must have some thin skin.

You refer to I presume this thread, also addressing the very same issues being addressed here.

All I did was CALL YOU OUT on a claim and ask you to post some footage to back up what you claim. Pretty simple for you to address, but you never did and still haven't.

At least Juan actually has posted what he's done with actual footage (MY FOOTAGE EVEN) and some subsequent corrections via Hook.

And mind you, this cool tutorial of his was a GENERAL tutorial about a grading process for getting better results with a RAW / LOG workflow and wasn't specific to Blackmagic other than his extra step.

You didn't call me out John. You insulted me.
I explained myself in a reasonable enough manner based on my experience.
I want to remind you that you are a moderator here, not a defense attorney for Blackmagic.
I don't owe you anything. And I most certainly do not have to justify myself to you.
We are not in a court of law, we are in a forum.

I have already explained very clearly that I cannot use client's work on this site.
Not only do I risk losing my job, but I could even be sued for it.
However, I can and have talked about my experience. That should be enough.
I most certainly don't need my professional credibility called into question for simply sharing my point of view.

For me you definitely crossed a line.
Not sure you will understand what I am getting at, but I hope you do.

For those of us who are trying to understand your position better, could you demonstrate with publicly available footage? I'm sure plenty of people here would happily send you dngs.

Your opinions and experience mean nothing if you can't back it up with examples for the rest of us. For all we know you're a hack, or you're one of the best in the world. We don't know so your opinion has no weight if you don't post footage or examples of your work and the issues you describe. That's just how it is. All opinions are not equal. Esepcially when you go against what others have experienced here. You're right, this isn't a court of law and you don't get the benefit of the doubt and are not innocent until proven guilty. Statistically you're more likely a hack, and until proven otherwise your opinions are judged as such.
