    Hi folks,
I am currently looking for a new lens that covers a zoom range going from wide angle to mid telephoto. It should have a continious aperture and image stabilization.
Whether it covers Full frame or not doesn't matter. EF Mount is crucial, since I own a lot of Metabones EF Adapters.

They say that the Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS is quite a good lens for cinematography purposes.
Did you try the cheaper versions of Tamron and Sigma? Any experience with those? How does the IS perform? I heard Tamron's IS is better than Canon's

Are there any newer lenses out there that might be a cheaper option to Canons 17-55?
Maybe something with a little bit more zoom range (something like an 18-85mm).

    Thanks for your recommendations!

If the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 is anything like the full frame 24-70 f2.8, the IS is great. But can't really vouch for it as I never tried it before.

Last time I checked metabones doesn't support Tamron's Vibration Conpensation (VC). I've heard that VC is a little better than both Canon and Sigmas IS but what good is it if it doesn't get power eh?

Sigma 17-50 is probably the best deal for the money. It was my first lens, and at this point it's my beater lens - the lens I don't mind getting a little dirty, hit, water sprayed, etc. They are very cheap like $360 new, much much less used.

If you can afford it, the sigma 18-35mm art is a much better lens, I'd get that and a longer lens and pair them of your budget allows.

Thanks Geran and Miguel. I already own a Sigma 18-35mm. Beautiful lens right there. But at times it gets a bit shaky, shooting hand-held
If they would come out with a stabilized version of this lens I'd be happy.

That's why I'm looking for a stabilized lens with a little bit more reach than 35mm...

I'm actually also curious about this. I'm looking at the Canon, Sigma, and Tamron 17-55/50 2.8's and also looking to get one.

My main considerations being a) image stabilisation and b) focus - as in which is best for manual focus

I guess, the Canon is the best choice/compromise considering manual focus and IS.

At least this video says so.

Sigma 24-105 f/4 maybe is worth checking out.
