So I've just received my Ursa Mini Pro and need to quickly invest into a tripod system.

My budget is around 1,500. I'd love a Sachtler but the FSB 10 is out of my price range and I don't think the payload of the FSB 8 will be enough. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of second hand options for my budget either. I've come across the following combo for a total of 1,240:

    Head: Cartoni Focus HD (660)
Legs: Manfrotto 536 Carbon Fibre (580)

Does anybody have any experience with either of these? There aren't many reviews of the Cartoni head online but what I have found has been very positive, and having a 12kg payload for 660 is very nice! I am leaning towards the Manfrotto legs because I'd like something that is light but flexible, and they seem as if they could hold 10-12kg with no issue.

Any other ideas for this kind of money?

    Thanks,

You researched well. That combo is one of the best in terms of price to performance ratio. Just keep in mind that the Cartoni has its durability issues. Knobs/levers are plastic and need to be babied. The 536 sticks are very well built and will last. Will also go obscenely high if you ever need that (in a crowd, event, etc).

Try to find a used Miller DS20 on the market.

The newer Compass series is much better, but the DS20 will be right around your budget and much better than a Manfrotto.

The Vinten Vision Blue head has served me well and has taken quite a beating over the last 2 and a half years since we got it. It seems to be on sale at CVP.com.

Unfortunately, it is a 75mm head, not 100mm like the Cartoni, if that's a problem for you.

He's not considering a Manfrotto for the head, but rather a Cartoni. The Manfrotto heads are not great, but the 536 sticks are.

Having said that, the Ds20 and Compass are great heads too. I've seen Compass heads go used for a price that is just $300 or so more than the Cartoni Focus HD new.

    The DS20 much cheaper still.

All good options above, Benro is a good budget option, though the rubber feet can stretch out a little. I've been using the H8 for a couple years now in some pretty hard environments and it's going strong.

I've been using a Cartoni Focus for about 9 years now and absolutely love it. The only issue I've had was with the button on the illuminated bubble level -- the Lexan sticker that covers the button eventually peeled off.

I use the Sachtler FSB6 with my UMP no problem. Do you rig it up big since you need the 10?
