I too have been nearly 100% working in Resolve since 12.

Sure..it took a little getting used to coming from Premiere....but not THAT much getting used to.

The only thing that slowed down my transition was the cost of re-purchasing VFX in the OFX format...that was a drag.

Frank & Zak (everyone else too),

I'd love to know your respective editing machine specs. I've got a x99 based 6 core Hackintosh with a GTX 970. I'm thinking of upgrading my card. Not sure if I should stay with Nvidia and go 1080 Ti or switch and do dual Radeon 480s/580s.

I have a x99, 6-core PC 4.4GHz overclocked running Dual XFX RX 480s. I can typically edit 4k without much slowdown as long as I am using less compressed footage. Working with GH4 or GH5 h.264 footage can be a chore, but proxy files can eliminate much of the headache.

Thanks, Makinise. Bummer that with dual cards that there's a slowdown. I assume you're talking Resolve since that's the thread we're in. I keep reading that the Nvidia cards, even though they're faster, aren't truly optimized for Premiere. AMD and FCP are more tightly integrated.

I've got an x99 and 6 core setup with dual R9 Radeon 390X on a Win10 Pro OS and have tuned it to edit and grade smoothly in 4K Prores 444 and RAW 3.1 that's about 30 mins in edited length. I can do 50-90 mins of HD and 2.5K in uncompressed Raw without DR 12.5.5 breaking a sweat. The R9 390X have [slightly] better performance over the 480s as far as cine benchmark (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) is reporting. Also keep in mind that mileage varies depending on the complexity (i.e. number of nodes, OFX used, SFX used) are being used in your timeline. Finally, very fast scratch storage is big deal for Resolve, separating the OS and Software from your work and scratch drives. I used RAID 0 SSDs for my scratch and RAID 10K RPM for my work/file drives. OS and DR software are on a 256Gb M.2 drive (nothing else on it).
