    Hi,

shot this commercial some weeks ago on two BMPCCs. I planned the shots but since I had also written the story I was director on shooting day and we had a camera operator who was not familiar with exposing the pocket - unfortunately all footage came out 1 1/2 stops underexposed. So this is mostly all graded just below ISO 1600 in Resolve. Soundmix isn't finished yet.

Great looking commercial! What this shot RAW? What were your lenses? Great lighting setup too.

F-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c cinematography, man! The BMPCC shines in your hands, and the whole commercial has a distinctive "classic" look. Bravo!
    What lenses?

Shot raw with mostly Zeiss ZE lenses on Metabones BMPCC Speedbooster.

Since they are not internal focus lenses they gave us a hard time on the gimbal, constantly throwing balance off when focus was pulled.

For lighting, we gelled the large windows of the cafe with 1/4 diffusion and shot two 1.2K HMI through them from the street - we didn't want to have any lighting setup changes due to a tight schedule. Should have taken 2.5K HMI though.

Wow!!! Great footage. Really a mini Alexa in this one. Could you elaborate a little bit on your color proces? Looks very nice.

Color process started with location and costume

We ended up shooting in the Cafe where I had the idea for the story. There are great colors on the walls and ceiling in that cafe, pale blue and some warm, light greys.
That matched well with the rich blue of the suit from the main character. And we tried to mix in some pastel colors with costume of some extras.

Grading wise I didn't really do much, pushed exposure in the raw tab A LOT (footage was really badly underexposed) and dialed in color temperature to taste after throwing on Hook's original LUT for BMCC. In my opinion it's still the best LUT ever made for BMCC and BMPCC/BMMCC. Added a little contrast here and there but not much else.

I agree about the LUT...it's just so good sometimes! The footage looks great for being underexposed. Noise removal?

Wow, 1.5 stops underexposed yet still some of the best BMPCC footage I've ever seen. What did you use for noise removal?

    No noise removal.
I think the Pocket's noise resembles film grain, I don't mind it. Vimeo and Youtube compression also washes it away a bit.
