I think the Tokina 17mm f/3.5 RMC is a closer match IQ wise, and is softer wide open like the zoom.
    Cheers

I second that, it's not really softer resolution wise, but low-con like the zoom. And cheap. But get the right version or focusing the other way will drive you mad (I hope they are available with focus in either direction, I only own the Minolta SR version).

I forgot about that one, thanks.

Never used it, but here's one for sale that looks to be in perfect condition. Though it's roughly the same price as the Canon FD f/3.5 which is probably a better lens.

Tris, that ismthe newer version, I,was referring to the RMC model, based on Angenieux designs, like the zoom.
    See: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tokina-RMC-...gAAOSwUVhbxUHq
Avg perice is $150 to $300 depending on the mount.

I was referring to the RMC too, but I didn’t even know it’s based on an Angenieux design as well.

When I first got mine, I did some research, and this is what I was led to believe. I had the original Angenieux Zoom (the Tokina version was based on) at the time, and its IQ matched the Tokina RMC 17mm fairly close. They were also made about the same time, so their is some obvious resemblance, and the Tokina 17mm is a Angenieux design retro focus type lens also. Angenieux csme out with the first retro focus WA prime. Japan lens makers, like others, borrowed from Angenieux and Zeiss lens designs.

Wow, they have gone up in recent years! I bought mine for less than 50 Euro, but at that time there were not many cameras to adapt it to.

Nikon mount, 2.6-2.8, 77mm filter. Optics are like new, only downside is the zoom. Zoom is a bit stiff, and isn't really smooth. Comes with the original box. Asking 150,- EUR + shipping

Kinda dumb question... I have the Nikon mount of this lens. Can I slap an EF adapter on it and use it with an EF .64 Speed Booster? If so, any recommendations for the adapter?
