Ok, I'm managed to find someone else interested in building a passive EF mount replacement for the UMPL, but they need to get their hands on one of the cameras.

Is there anyone in Melbourne (or that vicinity) who owns an URSA Mini PL that would be willing make it available for some measurements?

Yeah, where is he? Do you have some samples of his metal works?

This is what I posted over at BMD Forum:

It's quite possible Illya is still working on the project, but the last correspondence I had with him was late August when he was looking into the possibility of building an active EF mount. In his words, "No guarantees , but exploring every option." Since then I've received no further replies to my emails - one in November and one last month.

My feeling is, in true Hot Rod style, Illya is looking to build the best possible EF mount with all available options - I.E., active and locking. If that's the case, and they can build one, I doubt Hot Rod will have any difficulty selling a large number of these units, and I'm sure it will be an outstanding product. But with no indication of when this may be available, if at all, I've decided to look at other options.

There is a specialised manufacturer/designer in Australia who produces mount replacements for RED cameras. It's possible they may be able to produce a mount replacement for the UM PL. It won't be active. It may not be locking. But if it's possible for them to build one, it will be of high quality and serve its purpose - a passive EF mount for URSA Mini PL.

As always, if I hear any more news I'll post it right here.

    Thanks!!

Yeah, Steven is great but the mount needs to be locking imho!

Active would a huge bonus of course but locking is a must for that camera since the only way to focus is by hand or with a FF or WFF not electronically so the ef bayonet must be locking.

Sony E-Mount may not be an option due to its 18mm flange to focal plane distance which is well rearwards in the throat of the URSA Mini camera.

Yeah, Sony E is definitely out of the question.

Hey Robert, with your recent experience producing a speedbooster capable URSA, interested in embarking on a EF mount for URSA Mini PL?

There is not enough room in the Mini PL for a Speed Booster.

Denny. Does the URSA mini have similar insides to the original BM4K. A speedbooster will fit inside that - just. I have asked BM for a few dead URSA cameras to offer fittings up to but have not heard back since 8th August.

Trispembo. An EF-Mount may be doable for the original Mini 4K PL but only if the camera uses the same principle of a metal donut which I call the intermediate adaptor, fastened inside the camera body which the PL-Mount attaches onto. The mount ring, the small screws, the corrugated spring would have to be sourced from somewhere, either as a Canon spare or maybe BM's own version if they would supply it as a spare part. The ideal would be to make a mount similar in its style to the PL-Mount but in EF-Mount profile with threaded lock ring but I think there is not sufficient workspace to do this.

I'm not talking about a speedbooster.
